Types of Courses

Playing Clue Ride takes you on a scheduled Outing on a Course with stops at multiple Attractions along the way. This describes the Course Types.

General Types of Courses

When a Guide invites you to join a Clue Ride, you’ll be following one of two general types of courses:

  • Point-to-Point: Begins at one location and ends at a different location; has a definite start and end. Guides will ride with participants back to the start for most point-to-point courses.
  • Loop Course: Begins at some point along a loop that returns back to the same place it starts.

Specific Types of Courses

For a given type of course, you’ll want to be prepared for the course. Here are descriptions of specific types of Courses and what you need to be prepared for the course.

Point to Point Courses

A Point-to-Point course has a given starting location and a given destination.

Picnic Destination

A Picnic Course will visit attractions where items for a picnic can be picked up. Good items to bring with you on your bike:

  • Cash and/or Credit Cards for purchases.
  • A lock so the bike can be left unattended while picking up items; an alternative is for seekers to go inside in shifts.
  • ID in case you’re purchasing alcoholic beverages (picnic locations will allow discreet consumption).
  • Suggested: Sunscreen; insect repellent.
  • Backpack or pannier if desired; helps Guide carry more items.
  • As always, bring your mobile device for following maps and answering clues
  • Guide will bring re-usable plastic cups for beverages, table cloth, pocket knife, bottle opener and napkins; you may want your own blanket if you’ve got room to carry.

Restaurant / Bar Destination

A Restaurant Course will visit cultural attractions where refreshments may be available en route to a meal (breakfast / lunch / dinner).  Good items to bring with you on your bike:

  • Cash and/or Credit Cards for purchases.
  • A lock so the bike can be left unattended while picking up items; an alternative is for seekers to go inside in shifts.
  • ID in case you’re purchasing alcoholic beverages.
  • Suggested: Sunscreen.
  • As always, bring your mobile device for following maps and answering clues

Arrival at Event

An Event-based Course will bring seekers to a specific event that is going on. In this case, the destination is often known ahead of time, and instructions on what to bring depend on the Event.

Loop Courses

Loop Courses usually have a Theme, such as “Tiny Doors”, or “Champion Trees”. These courses are more dependent on picking up refreshments and snacks along the way, and will return back to the starting point.  Because there is no specific beginning or end, the course may be picked up at any point and followed back around to that same point.

  • Lights (white facing front, red facing rear) when traveling after dark.
  • As always, bring your mobile device for following maps and answering clues.
